Vista SP1 & XP SP3 First Impressions!

So I’ve been reading alot on Digg & other tech site such as dailytech of people having problems after installing Vista SP1 & XP SP3. Well after spending a little time installing both I thought I would give my impressions.
Vista Service Pack 1
Well for a start my computer is still working so no problems there then . In fact as far as Vista SP 1, im using 64-bit, goes I’m actually noticing an increase in performance and for once Vista doesn’t seem to be stealing all my system resources like it use to. I’ll give my system stats later just in case you want to compare systems.
I haven’t really found anything impressive that Microsoft have added, but an increase in performance and stability is just about everything I wanted so I can’t really complain. The 32-bit version is also just as good. My Dad’s computer has 32-bit Vista on and it’s working wonderfully, he says that he has also noticed a increase in performance since SP1’s installation.
XP Service Pack 3
While it isn’t actually out yet, SP3’s RC2 is freely available to the public and I always like to try new things. So I thought I would give it a quick preview.
As far as I can tell, and I’m writing this in XP, it’s working great. No instability, no problems and a minor increase in speed & overall performance.
Overall
To be honest I really don’t see what all the complaints are about. I haven’t had any problems with either of the new service packs and if anything, as I have said, I have noticed better performance since I started using them.
Of course as with everything on computers things tend to be different depending on your hardware. So here is a list of my hardware so you can see what Vista SP1 & XP SP3 definitely run on.
- Motherboard: ASUS P5N32-E SLI
- Processor: Intel Q8800 Quad Core
- Graphics: BFG GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB
- Sound: Creative X-Fi Xtreme Music
- HDD1: Western Digital 300GB SATA HDD
- HDD2: Seagate 300GB SATA HDD
- HDD3: Maxtor 280GB SATA HDD
- DVD-R/RW: Pioneer 111D DVD-R/RW DL
- DVD-R/RW2: Samsung/Toshiba Lightscribe DVD-R/RW DL
- TV Tuner: Leadtek Winfast DTV2000 H
That’s about it. I use ethernet connection for 20MB internet connection so I have no idea if there is any effect on wireless card/USB devices.
Hope this helps everyone and helps you decide whether to upgrade to the new SP or not. Again leave a comment if you have any questions or anything you’d like to add.
