GTA 4 Controversy

First a quick note. I promised a redirection from referral tutorial a few days ago, unfortunately it turns out I didn’t need to make one so I can’t do that tutorial. Sorry, that it’s been a little quiet on the coding front but I haven’t really seen or thought of anything that sparks interest. I’m sure I’ll think of something soon though. :)

Anyway I wanted to make a quick post about GTA 4 and this strange controversy that seems to be sweeping the world at the minute. Yes, I’m talking about the ‘Ooooh, violent games make people kill people’. All I can say is get a life and find something good to moan about. In fact scratch that don’t moan go and do something, help end poverty, help advances in medicine (FAH anyone), do anything but don’t moan about it.

I found a great article here that really sums up my feelings on this subject. It is in most cases up to the parents to teach their kids right from wrong. My parents taught me & I plan to do the same for my kids.

There is of course one more thing that I always wondered. These organisations or whoever they are say that GTA 4 has and will make people commit violent crimes. Ok so the game wasn’t out yet and someone got stabbed and somehow it’s GTA 4’s fault? No it’s the fault of the prick who decided it would be fun to stab someone & most probably the parents of that kid. Yes, I know there could be circumstances such as his parents being dead or something terrible like that but lets assume his parents are still on this earth.

I for one know the difference between reality & games but I’m 20 so I should hope I do. I agree that there is a certain age that games like GTA shouldn’t be given to children but it is the parents responsibility to protect the child & decide what that age is. The ratings board should be there to give you some guidelines.

You could say it is down to circumstance & intelligence. For example there are people who are fully grown but have a slightly lower metal age than the rest of us. Let’s say for example a 30 year old with a 15 year old’s mental age. Shouldn’t these organisations be worried about them committing crimes too?

I could go on forever but I’m not going to because I know that no matter what I write I’m bound to get some dickhead on their high horse saying I know nothing because I don’t have children. It doesn’t really matter I mean have you ever thought that some of the people complaining about GTA 4 haven’t had children yet either?

Anyway that’s my take. Let me know what you think. But please keep it nice and friendly, no flaming or I’ll just remove your post and if you continue, ban you from posting.

  1. Great article, I’m not sure if any one has pointed this out to you, but “organization” is spelled with a “z” not an “s”

    It’s just British vs. American spellings. Both are acceptable.

  3. @Grim: Yep I know, but I’m British so I think I’ll stick with the organisation. ;)
    @Jacob: Yep, indeed. :)
    Glad you both liked my article. :D
